Jonas Brothers Unofficial Fan Club

I am a relatively new member on this website. I am in the process of being diagnosed with hypoglycemia, or low blood sugar. Since I have been having the symptoms, I have been researching diabetes, all types. I have chosen to do my science fair project on diabetes. I am looking into the theory that "most" diabetics are overweight and do not eat healthy. I am 15, about 5' 4" and weigh under ninety pounds. I am also looking into the possibility that these "overweight, unhealthy", diabetics were predisposed to the disease. Anyone who would like to participate is welcome. I am testing two of my friends that are not diabetic. They will eat normally and be tested, then eat like a diabetic and be tested. So, you do not have to have the disease. Mostly just age, weight, (if you are okay with that), what you eat and when. Any input is appreciated. Lets hear it. I for one, do not think that diabetics are just overweight, unhealthy people. Even if you are overweight, is there a chance that the disease runs in your family. I need numbers guys! Let do it!

This is a great idea! And props to you for doing this. :D

I don't think I'll participate, though. Sorry.

No problem. I know it isn't an easy thing to reply to. Most of my info at the moment is coming from diabeteens.co. It is really interesting. When all is said and done, I will post my findings here. You never know, it may help some one. Thanks for the great web site!

You are absolutely right! And that is why part of my project is proving that this a false statement. Technically, I am diabetic. My blood sugar is too low and it is not a reaction to medication. I am 15, about 5'4" tall and weigh 92lbs. I wear a size 0 in pants. So, I know that it is a false statement. My grandpa has type 2 diabetes and he is not overweight and eats healthy. Part of what I am looking at is that those who are overweight or do not eat healthy, do it because they ARE! prone to diabetes. If you know any one who has diabetes, any kind, I am looking for info, such as what they eat and when and how it affects their blood sugar. My levels are solely based on the fact that I have to eat. I know many diabetics eat very differently than a hypoglycemic. I am looking for any info. Diabetes or not. What do you eat? When? Why? I need more input!

In medicine, the term diabetes includes two different pathological situations: diabetes mellitus and diabetes insipidus. These disorders do not have a pathological relationship, as its causes and morbid processes (pathogenesis) are different, but share certain clinical manifestations (copious excretion of urine, intense thirst and polyuria, polydipsia) made having the same name.

Generally, you use the word 'diabetes' to referise to diabetes mellitus, which is a much more common disorder known that diabetes insipidus.

hi. I thought I could help you out. I know it's probably past the time of your project but either way...my family has a major history of diabetes on both my parents side...and me and my brother already have symptoms and we both have very different ones. I know both family and friends who have diabetes. I know for a fact that diabetes isn't just because people eat unhealthy or are overweight. At my work my manager is a diabetic but he also has a allergy that makes it hard for him to eat a lot of kinds of food...he eats really healthy. He's been a diabetic since high school I think. I also know for a fact that sometimes you can't help being a diabetic no matter what. You know about http://www.nickssimplewins.com/ right? It explains a lot about diabetes on there...

Thanks for answering. Yes the project is long past and it went well. I found at least two other diagnosed "stand alone hypoglycemics" at my school. Yes I know about simple wins. My medic alert came from there and so did my testing stuff. I have Nick's diabetes t-shirt from their fan club web site and the necklace from that site as well. I love it because they donate some of the money to JDR. I am going to their stadium of fire on July 4 and am very excited. Even though diabetes is quite different from hypoglycemia, I love to learn. My Doc says he thinks I will end up with type 2. It could be awhile if I take good care of my blood sugar levels now. I have been having a hard time since second semester began because one of my teachers has issues with me eating in class. They can't stop me, but it makes it uncomfortable for me so I have lost some control. Please keep in touch and let me know how you are doing. Thanks Again! I got some really good help.
